Australian Goannas

The Goannas are the Men’s National representative team for deaf basketball in Australia and is made up of the best deaf athletes throughout the nation. Residing in multiple states, players travel once every 1 to 3 months to their training base in Melbourne to train together for a weekend before resuming their normal representative club duties back home.

The squad is currently deep in preparations for the 2023 World Deaf Basketball Championships this June, to be held in Heraklion, Greece. It will be the first time in 6 years a Deaf Australian team will attend an international-level tournament.

Tryout for the Goannas!

September 16-17 & October 21-22

DBA and the Goannas are hosting 2 rounds of open tryouts for any Deaf and Hard of Hearing men who are keen on trying out for the Australian Goannas squad. The selected squad will have the honour of representing Australia at the 2024 Asia Pacific Deaf Basketball Championships (Location TBC), and the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo!
