OUR MISSION

At Deaf Basketball Australia we aim to promote and foster basketball throughout Australia for the deaf and hard of hearing, encouraging the formation of deaf and hard of hearing basketball associations across the nation so that all participants have opportunities available to represent their states and country through the international sport of basketball.

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Deaf Basketball Australia (DBA) is the National Body for Deaf and hard of hearing players throughout Australia. This includes acting as an umbrella body for all affiliated State Deaf Basketball Associations across the country.

Deaf Basketball Australia was formed in 1964 as an association with the original aim of running the annual national deaf basketball competitions, known as the National Deaf Basketball Club Championships. Our objectives expanded to oversee the preparation of national teams to attend the Deaflympics (Olympics for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing), World Deaf Basketball Championships, Asia Pacific Deaf Games and the Asia Pacific Deaf Basketball Club Championships.

We are affiliated with Deaf International Basketball Federation (DIBF), Deaf Sports Australia (DSA) and are currently building an exciting partnership with Basketball Australia.

We are an inclusive organisation who are accepting of all levels of hearing loss and deafness. This includes participants who have a hearing loss of less than the international standard of 55 decibels (dB) and are recipients of hearing aids, cochlear implants and deaf individuals. To be eligible for the Australian Deaf team, contestants must have a valid audiogram with the result of a hearing loss of 55 Decibels or more in your better ear.

Deaf Basketball Australia are working hard to restructure the Womens Geckos, Under 21 Ringtails, and Under 21 Dingoes program.
