OUR HISTORY

1972 Deaf Mens Basketball

In 1963, the then Hon, Secretary of the Victorian Deaf Basketball Club, Mr. A.W. Sugden submitted a plan for the formation of a new basketball association. The inaugural meeting took place at the NSW Deaf clubrooms on Monday 28 December 1964 and it was at this meeting that the first Constitution and Rules of Association were adopted that have been amended over time.

At the 2005 Deaflympics which were hosted in Melbourne, the first time the Deaflympics had been hosted by a city in the Southern Hemisphere, the national team finished a respectable 4th place just missing out on a medal losing to Lithuania. It was this result that stamped the Goannas and Deaf Basketball Australia onto the world stage.
